Sorry to hear of your experience iveseenthelight. Sad, but not surprising. Most JWs are ruled by fear, primarily fear of THOSE WHO HAVE LEFT in case you "infect" them.

As an active JW, did you find the Memorial to be special?
by Robert7 ineven as active jws, my wife and i always found the memorial to be anti-climatic, overhyped.
it was supposed to be the most important event of the year, but it just felt like another meeting.
i just never felt compelled to have to go.

To be honest, for most of my time in, yes. Then I noticed it was more about why people there should NOT PARTICIPATE... a long explanation about why YOU should NOT take wine or bread...

Memorial Thursday: why am I still getting an invitation?

why does my mother still give me a memorial invitation even though i don't go?

I stopped going to meetings five years ago. All my family are JWs. Why does my mother still give me a memorial invitation even though I don't go? She knows I don't go to the meetings. Is this the "last chance" of hope that I might return? Why do Witnesses persist with invitations to those who clearly don't want "The Truth"?

Just watched the new Bond film tonight and I loved it. Great English masculinity in Daniel Craig, great filming, great action chases, great cars, beautiful women. Loved it.

As of tomorrow I will no longer be a JW
by passwordprotected inafter my last post where i asked for advice on how to handle whether i should tell an elder that we've been going to church, i decided to tell a local elder who's related to me through marriage.
this was to save my dad having to 'report' me (i'd told my dad we go to church).
anyway, i had an interesting chat with him and he said some very personally revealing things re.

Mark, I enjoyed reading of your experience and your calm and reasoned insight into how you felt and why did what you did. As a fader myself, I admire what you did and the sudden-ness of your departure - it can't have been easy. It was very moving to read, and I was particularly struck by your lack of bitterness and anger, and the way what you did and said affected those JWs you had contact with on your exit. All the very best and thank you again for posting your story.

Reasons For My Not Posting Much Here Now
by flipper innot that i really owe an explanation for anything to anybody.
or if anybody is that concerned .
i understand and respect that simon had to do what he had to do - for reasons he explained.

The tipping point
by JeffT infrom wikipedia: "the term tipping point describes a point at which a slow gradual change becomes irreversible and then proceeds with gathering pace.
it is derived from the metaphor of a rigid solid object being tilted to a point where it begins to topple.".
has the watchtower reached such a point?

Are you sure that active JWs actually look at websites and chatrooms such as this? They're banned from looking at such sites, don't forget, and JWs are very obedient folk by and large...

What Do You Like Least About The JW Religion?
by minimus infor me, i think it's that they are 100% intolerant.
even if they are espousing an erroneous view and it is pointed out to them why they are incorrect, you would be "running ahead" if you still did not support the error until they state that a change in viewpoint has been made!

The closed minds that refuse to listen to anything that vaguely resembles a negative thought about Watchtower doctrine.

How long did you stay active after having major doubts?
by jambon1 infor me, i had doubts from the beginning.
however, my 1st major doubt came as i had it confirmed that other people felt like i did about certain big issues within the org.
there were many, i realised, that just knew things were not right.

About ten years. It isn't easy leaving though, when it's so ingrained in you and when all your family are JWs. I do view it now as ten years wasted though, wish I'd left at 20 instead of 30.
